5 Quick Tips Poster to Grow AAC Communication (in the classroom...or...you know, anywhere)

September is often a time when we head back to the classroom.  Suddenly, instead of being at home with parents, siblings, and friends, we are surrounded by teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, administrators, speech therapists, librarians, aides, students, and other less familiar communication partners.

As an AAC communicator, it sometimes happens that speech boards or devices are available during therapy or in specific settings, but not necessarily accessible ALL the time. Often, well-intentioned supporters aren't confident in how to engage using AAC so they leave that to professionals like SLPs or Assistive Technology Specialists.

Like anything else, learning and growth happen best when a person can be surrounded or immersed in that concept or opportunity.  That is definitely true for AAC.

If we empower teachers, aides, and other supporters (or even peers) to take simple steps forward with AAC communication, it can make a HUGE difference.

To help get things started, we've created a straightforward graphic that could be displayed as a poster in classrooms or printed and shared as a bookmark with individuals to help supporters understand dynamic actions they can take to strengthen AAC communication.

This printable support could be shared as part of a continuing education session, given as a "back to school" reminder with a treat, handed out to parents and families, shared in a faculty meeting – etc.

These concepts encourage ANY supporter or team to advance their AAC understanding and growth.  Actually, these ideas could be applied to just about any kind of communication– but are still GREAT reminders and simple tips for AAC.

We'll be cheering for you (and your communicators) as you head back to the classroom!!
