Spending to Speak (pssst -- AAC doesn’t have to break the bank)

augmentative communication Mar 23, 2016

When your voice is stored on an electronic device, the device becomes pretty important. Suddenly that hand-held piece of hardware is more than just a flashy compilation of wires and buttons. It becomes the outlet for your thoughts and learning as well as your medium for telling jokes, expressing ideas, and sharing feelings.

It matters. A lot.

Sadly, a dedicated communication device is not usually an inexpensive or easily attainable piece of merchandise. These things can be costly and even when there are grants or insurance benefits available, the process can be lengthy and difficult to maneuver.

But that’s one way CoughDrop is different.

CoughDrop AAC on multiple devices

CoughDrop is a cross-platform AAC program meaning that it can function on just about any internet-savvy device. Whether it's a computer, an iPad, a Kindle, or an Android tablet CoughDrop gets along with them all.

But even beyond that, CoughDrop is not saddled to any one piece of hardware. With CoughDrop, all of a communicator’s boards, buttons and information are saved securely in the cloud. And because CoughDrop is cloud based, speech boards and voice buttons are not trapped on one specific device -- they are available when you log in from ANY device.

That means whether a person can afford the latest version of the iPad or just a simple Kindle, they can always make their voice heard.

It also means if your speech device gets broken or lost (or spontaneously combusts or gets eaten by a bear), you don’t have to spend a fortune to start over. Not only can you save money by using a less expensive device from the get go, but you won't need to re-purchase the AAC program or re-create your vocabulary because CoughDrop is NOT settled in the memory of one exclusive machine.

Instead, if disaster strikes, you can just grab another gadget, log in to your account, and pick up right where you left off.

We think life in the cloud is a pretty good way to go.

On top of that, CoughDrop offers not only a five year license of the program, but also a monthly payment option to try to help those without a big budget be able to find their voice.

Even if we don’t like to admit it, money really does matter. It plays a pretty significant role in most of our lives. But with more options available and better access all around, CoughDrop hopes to make money matter a little bit less.

Thinking outside the device really is a beautiful thing.
