Hello, my name is CoughDrop

augmentative communication Jan 1, 2016

It's the start of a new year (yeah, you probably noticed that).

Like many people, we at CoughDrop have big plans, big goals, big dreams for the coming year. We are a small group of passionate people intent on changing the face of AAC for the better.

And we'd like to meet you.

Nice to meet you!

In the world of AAC, there is a desperate need for team work and community. We believe in both. So, to start the year, we'd like to introduce ourselves and give you a quick view of who we are, what we stand for, and where we are going.

You may have learned some of the basics of CoughDrop in this early post. But at the end of 2015 CoughDrop's founder, Brian Whitmer, had the chance to sit down with Lucas Steuber, a speech-language pathologist, applied linguist, and the CEO of LanguageCraft to chat about what makes CoughDrop unique.

Although few people may come to the AAC family by choice, those that are here are pretty engaged in making AAC the best it can be...and that's our story too.

But CoughDrop is not just any old AAC program.

We plunged into the AAC world with a distinctive vision. Like many in the AAC family, we want speech and communication to be available to every struggling communicator, and we believe good technology can help make that happen. Our focus is on usability and functionality. We want to empower the communication community surrounding every AAC user.

Everything we do links back to those basic ideas. That's why we are open source. That's why we are cloud based.

But don't take my word for it, get the skinny from our founder as he shares his ideas in this arena.

Yes, we are still fairly new to the AAC realm, but we aren't going anywhere.

CoughDrop is here to stay.

Still, we have no desire to coast along riding the tide of the norm -- we want to make waves. We want to change the way people interact with AAC; we want to make it better. We want communicators to have their voice available no matter what, and we want the team surrounding these precious communicators to know that they are heroes and their voice matters too.

We are highly invested in AAC and we want to move it forward -- send it leaping forward -- for the benefit of anyone and everyone involved.

And that's where you come in.

Now that you've met us, we'd like to meet you too. We'd love to have you take a test drive and get a feel for why we believe CoughDrop is so special (a two month free trial is a great way to get started). Come visit us at www.mycoughdrop.com or find us on Twitter or Facebook.

We'd love to get to know you.
